The Frightening Reality of Sperm Health and What You Can Do About It
Sperm count has declined 52.4% since 1973, and the rate of decline has increased from 1.16% to 2.64%. We are on track for a global male fertility crisis. Now more than ever the health of your partner’s sperm is more important than ever.
It sends chills down my spine to think about this. With so much emphasis being placed on the female and their health during preconception and pregnancy, the men have really taken a back seat over the years. However, they can hide no more.
Sperm rates are rapidly declining and we are on track to have all sperm lost in just over 2 decades. Just google “sperm count in 2045” now this might seem dramatic but at the rate we going as a human species we are destroying our health. Men must take their health into their own hands. 1 in 4 couples are struggling to try and conceive.
And don’t look at those rubbish reference ranges. They represent the 5th percentile of fertile men. If you want your man at 50% for an average chance of conception.
This is where you want him to sit
Sperm Volume: 3.7%
Concentration: 73 million
Progressive: 55%
Motility: 61%
Morphology: 15%
What can he do?
Start with:
Eating organic
Swap to low tox skin care products and household cleaning products
Eat a diet full of veggies, fruit, complex carbs and protein
Bring in smart supplements to fill nutritional gaps
Stop smoking and vaping
Stop keeping your phone in your back pocket
Stop cooking with Teflon, swap to stainless steel and cast iron
Stop microwaving with plastic
Stop storing food in plastic
Get a full panel of bloods done which include: FBC, eLFTs, Vitamin B12, Folate, Iron Studies, Homocysteine, Cholesterol Studies, Insulin, CRP, ESR, TSH, Zinc, Cortisol, LH, Testosterone, DHEA. Ensure the bloods are drawn fasting and assessed by someone who knows what optimal is (I can help here if you need support – just make a time to see me here)
If you have man with low sperm count, they need to do more. The health of your baby depends on him. He makes up 50% of the genetic material. It bloody matters. And I hope men realise this soon enough before it’s too late.
